ARTIST’S
STATEMENT
“There are two broad categories of painting from representational to non- objective. Between these two extremes are countless variations. From the earliest cave drawings, artists have made their personal marks in varying degrees even while adhering to tradition and purposes of a particular era. There are many symbols of expression as there are ways of seeing. For more than twenty-five
years I have been studying the esthetic principles of art, learning
from others, being inspired and influenced by particular painters. I
have experienced numerous styles and techniques of painting from realistic
to abstract. I enjoy it all. I love to paint! For me, the most
challenging and rewarding way to paint is my interpretation of America’s
first significant and new art form in the Western world that occurred
during the late 1040’s and 1950’s – Abstract Expressionism. Painting
expressionistically evolved from my long-standing desire to paint experimentally
with no preconceived idea or objective in mind. To allow the immediate
process to take over, letting the spontaneous markings and colors tell
me what shape, how big or small, how bright or dull, how dark or light.
These paintings are a form of communication involving me consciously
with the inner world of imagination, painting the landscapes of my emotions
and thoughts. I am appreciative of the Palmer Art Gallery and North County Coalition for the Arts for providing this space and the opportunity to share my personal point of view.”
