PROFILE

 

     Stan Sowinski, painter, iconographer, illustrator, and teacher, was born in Milwaukee, WI. He studied art in Milwaukee before joining the Navy. He spent 26 years in the Navy, having four sea commands, including a 21-ship squadron during the Vietnam War. He painted his entire Navy career. He had one-man shows in Washington D.C., the U.K., Japan, and the Philippines. He also showed at a special government sponsored exhibit at the U.S. Embassy in London. He retired from the Navy in 1971 and has painted and exhibited since. He studied at the San Diego School of Arts and graduated from San Diego State University. He has been a resident of San Diego County since 1945.

     A few of his notable commissions include: UCSD, San Diego Trust & Savings Bank, International Savings Bank, the Corpus Christi Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and the Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church.

     A few of his more notable publications include: International Who’s Who, Who’s Who in the West, Who’s Who in American Art, and Falk’s Who Was Who in American Art.
