ARTIST’S
STATEMENT
PROFILE
Joann Sandlin began a serious pursuit of
art after retiring from San Diego State University, where she was
a professor. She enrolled in her first painting class in the fall
of 1990, and has continued her studies since that time. Her work reflects admiration of the French
Impressionists combined with love of themes reminiscent of the early
Southwest and our Native American heritage. A long-term project of
Dr. Sandlin’s is a series of painting in which she strives to capture
the wonder of childhood in children of different races. All her paintings
are characterized by close harmony and a strong sense of composition.
She has won numerous awards and her work can be found in private collections
throughout the U.S. and parts of Europe. Currently she is represented
by Four Winds Gallery of San Diego, and twelve of her works are part
of the permanent collection of the Smoki Museum in Prescott, AZ. |
