“Born in Nice,
France, Lydia Richez-Bowman came to America in 1954. She currently lives
in Southern California. Her French heritage is an important part of
her personality and a strong influence to her creativity. Matisse, George
Rouault, recently Belgium artist Jephan De Villiers and the beautiful
stained glass windows in European churches, all of these are an inspiration
for her work. Their influence, reflected in her use of rich colors,
bold design, unique style and references to nature, most notably in
her current series "Life Renews".
Ms. Richez-Bowman studied
ceramics at Chabot College, in Northern California and painting, drawing,
sculpture, design, textiles and printmaking at Southwestern College,
in Southern California. Lydia Richez-Bowman received Associates in Arts
Degree in 1979 and Associates in Science Degree in 1981. In 1988, she
returned to school for continuing education studies in the Interior
Design Transfer Program. In 1994-1995 Ms. Richez-Bowman returned to
Southwestern College once again to become a silversmith, study jewelry
design, and jewelry production. She is self-taught in the art of enamel
cloisonné on fine silver, designed and created jewelry for three
years.
Since her jewelry experience,
Ms. Richez-Bowman has returned to painting and now continues to explore
and refine her technique and style. She is an award-winning artist and
has been accepted into numerous juried and invitational exhibitions,
as well as many independent showings. Assortments of her paintings are
in private collections here and abroad.”
