ARTIST’S STATEMENT

“In my work, the elements of discovery as well as design (color, composition, lines, texture, and contrast) are foremost. Light and shadow play a vital part in much of my art. When viewed from different vantage points and in different light, the work changes and the “invisible” become visible. In my puzzle series, I have chosen to use the universal symbols of a jigsaw puzzle in unfamiliar ways to explore our puzzling universe and engage the viewer in the discovery process.

PROFILE

Catherine Newhart received her B.F.A. from the University of Colorado at Boulder, CO. Her work has received recognition in the United States, Canada, and Europe. She has exhibited in numerous juried, group, and solo exhibitions. She has been featured on television and in print for her innovative processes and hold a United States patent for creating unique embossed graphic prints. She is a current member of several organizations including the San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild.
