PROFILE
"Born into the simultaneously mundane
and surreal heart of sunny Southern California, Tim McCormick spent
his earliest years in suburban Burbank - a bizarre Hollywoodland bubble
where sleepovers with the Zappa family, Andy Griffith up the street,
and Leif Garrett loitering on the front lawn where nothing out of
the ordinary. If you've ever wondered how the kids they used to test
Kroft Super Stars (Syd and Marty Kroft's 70's freakout puppet program)
turned out, look no further. At age ___ McCormick moved to the comparably
rural outlands of northern San Diego County where he would become
immersed in what's regarded today as the genesis of Southern California's
notorious surf and skateboard subculture. Consequently, McCormick's
work reflects a unique perspective on issues of fame, pop culture,
and self. Having eschewed the confines of conventional training (no
portfolios or submissions here) he has, over the past fifteen years,
embraced a self-taught methodology and possesses a distinct personal
aesthetic evident in his considerable body of work. Regarded as a
standout within the Southern California art scene, McCormick currently
exhibits extensively in Los Angeles, New York, and throughout the
greater (and lesser) U.S."
