ARTIST’S STATEMENT

“One might say my career as a sculptor began the first day of my life. It is my passion. My life as a father of seven children, veteran, remarried widower and senior citizen has given me a broad base of human experiences to call upon for artistic expressions of ideals, opinions and sentiments. I am constantly interpreting my surroundings for situations that can be portrayed in three dimensions. Sight, sound and touch make up my palette. Everything is done with singularity and great intensity. For me, ‘Sculpture makes tangible what comes from the soul in expressing the impressions of the senses.’ Humor is another element that is very much a part of my life. Were I to lose the ability to see whimsy in life’s ironies, I could not survive.

My works as a whole do not reveal a specific style, as they are a composite of contemporary, whimsical, and representational formats. I also use differing mediums and techniques in creating each work to fit the subject matter. They are personal statements on all manner of things that affect my view of life. From the moment of conception of an idea to its completion as a finished sculpture, I am in the viewer’s eye making certain its meaning will be readily perceived.

Sculpted portraits are my forte. For me, portraits are not just dimensionally correct forms, but are the product of observations of the subject’s inner image. I strive to render the essence of the subject’s countenance such that they are forever alive; they appear ready to speak. Figuratively they are made immortal.”
