ARTIST’S STATEMENT

“ In my figurative paintings I emphasize the curvilinear nature of the female forms to convey sensuality. Rounded, voluminous forms are in contrast to the rectangular nature of the canvas. My greatest influences are Toulouse Lautrec, Matisse, Alice Neel, and Gauguin.

In my mixed media collages< I paint in layers to represent the sometimes irrational and disorderly nature of life’s experiences; the imagery illustrates the complexity of human emotions. For example, fruit symbolizes carnal pleasures, the fish is fear, the bird is freedom, and the cup symbolizes the fullness of life.

I believe the greatest role of an artist is to provoke a response or emotional connection, inviting the viewer to construct his or her own personal narrative”.
