ARTIST’S STATEMENT

“My artwork has been strongly influenced by the beauty of California landscapes and seascapes. I try to portray the feeling of the outdoors, whether it be the ocean, bay or California countryside. I paint in watercolor, acrylic, oils or pastel often sketching or painting on site and then finishing in my studio. Sometimes I photograph interesting outdoor compositions and work from my photos at a later time. Other work is strictly from my recollection of a scene, something perhaps that has made such a strong impression on my memory that I fell I must put paint to canvas. Most of the landscapes I do give a feeling of peacefulness and serenity.”

PROFILE

Joan studied at the University of Maryland, University of Colorado, UCSD, SDSU, and has taken workshops from several nationally known artists. She has exhibited with the Point Loma Artists and has won awards at the San Diego Watercolor Society and the City Administration Building Parks and Recreation Show.
