PROFILE
He later studied art at Indiana University under the direction of Robert Thomas focusing on surrealism and color. Later in Memphis his association with John Torina and Tom Foster became a turning point in his art. Weekly drawing sessions at either John's or Darrel's "pad" developed into an explosion of impressionistic interpretations of figure drawing. Landscapes and figures became fused with the earlier surreal techniques. In coming to Southern California he has associated with many artists in San Diego Community and further developed the color tints and color layering over form that have become his trademark. "Our eyes record the light but it is our mind that embodies the world we live in, in away we live a life of illusion with reality muted. All my work is tethered by color and form in expressing each work. Monet, Robert Wood's works and the Hudson River School ideology influence the landscapes I create. The surreal dream images painted, speak at the intuitive level with deference to Paul Delvaux." Darrel currently has been creating new works for a growing market. |
