PROFILE
A native of Trenton, New Jersey, Arthur Lavine served in the U.S. Army as a photo lab technician and non-combat photographer during World War II. In the 1950’s, he was a magazine photographer for many national publications. He later managed Chase Manhattan Bank’s photo department for 22 years, with photos widely published. “The Family of Man” at the Museum of Modern Art, New York was among the exhibits in which his work appeared. His photographs are in the permanent collections of: the Museum of Photographic Arts, San Diego; The International Center for Photography, New York; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. In recent years, he has been building a new body of contemporary black and white photography, including reportage, mood pieces and abstracts. |
