PROFILE
Paul Kingsbury,
an internationally known seascape artist has lived and traveled nearly
half the world’s oceans and islands; and during his travels his paintings
have become known for their drama, light and natural life. Paul was born in
New Jersey and grew up in the mountains of Colorado. His art talent
was detected in kindergarten, and he received encouragement from both
parents and teachers. At 19, Paul was traveling the East Coast, the
Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Furthering his studies through correspondence
courses, he journeyed the West Coast and Hawaii. He has taught art in
public schools and worked with emotionally handicapped students to produce
murals. He has designed exhibits at the California State Fair, dabbled
in cartooning and line drawings, produced abstracts and illustrations,
painted signs, murals, visual aids and cultural depictions. His encouragement
and direction helped one of the first native Marshallese artists to
become successful. His commercial art business was well known in Pacific
Micronesia and his work has been published in several magazines. From Ireland to
Tasmania, Paul has work hanging in many well-known collections. His
work for Alele Museum in the Marshall Islands has become famous, depicting
early island life, legends, and historical events. One of his many friends
was President, Amata Kabua, who commissioned several works. Paul co-produced
the Marshall Islands Guidebook, presenting information on current and
past life in Micronesia. In addition, he was contacted to provide drawings
for the United Nations pamphlets on the subjects of environmental protection
and population education. More recently Paul
has lived and traveled the Caribbean, where his works can be found in
collections in Nicaragua, Belize, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
While living in Arecibo, Paul became known as the foremost seascape
artist of Puerto Rico. His work has been shown in galleries from Hawaii
to Puerto Rico and California to North Carolina. His love for the
surging seas and dramatic skies is reflected in bold, colorful realism.
One of his motivating forces is depicting the beauty and majesty of
the wonders of God’s creations. In his use of acrylics Paul utilizes
a number of techniques including transparent glazes, thin washes, heavy
accents and meticulous detailing. Paul currently resides in Julian, California and is a member of the San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild. |
