PROFILE

Jack Jordan began his art training at the age of 12, when his father enrolled him in the Federal (W.P.A.) Arts Project in Des Moines, Iowa. He was taken under the protective wing of the Projects Administrator, a fine artist and teacher Mr. Paul Parker. Jack had found his home among the other painters, lithography students, and sculptors. He was the only child in the class.

Under the G.I. bill called “On the Job Training”, Jordan worked as Staff Artist for the Des Moines Register and Tribune, and later hired as Art Director for the Evening Tribune in San Diego, California.

He attended school at the Colorado School of Art in Coronado, CA, The Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, and the Institute of the Arts in San Miguel Allende, Mexico.

Works and articles have been published in Southwest Art, Art West, and Contemporary Western Artists. Jack designed, wrote, and illustrated “Brand Book Seven”, published by Westerners, an organization of artists, historians, and members dedicated to the preservation of western history. He also illustrated many books and articles for the Copley Syndicate.

Jordan’s paintings have been shown in many one-man shows in the United States and Mexico. Recently, a one-man show of 35 seascapes for the Scripps Oceanographic Society was held at the Perspective Gallery in La Jolla, CA.

The artist continues teaching private art classes and also teaches special studies for Grossmont College of Community Learning in San Diego, CA.
