ARTIST’S
STATEMENT
“Shelley Hall's work is evocative of water reflections and the elements of nature. The soft muted earth tones are pared with deep rich, saturated colors, and soft luminous layers to create a harmonious blend of emotions and intellect. The underpaintings combine line, text, and objects in nature which are veiled in transparent layers of color, creating a luminous atmospheric quality. Just as poetry relies on grammatical compression, abstraction in the visual arts is often based on reduction and distillment. Ordinary objects
in nature - flowers, a branch, hills - begin to take shape through the
fog and then recede from your vision as you pass. The artist's subtle
layering of color evokes nature's mystery. Under the gentle surfaces
of these prints, soft grid patterns create structure and order, a balance
of light and shadow. |
