ARTIST’S
STATEMENT
“My art expresses
my passion for the interplay of shapes and color. Having grown up in
New York City and now living near the ocean and mountains on the west
coast, it’s natural for me to reference the city as well as landscape
in my artwork. But as I paint, subject matter becomes secondary. Shapes
and color are my primary tools for defining pictorial space. These shapes
become simplified with abstraction and invented color is used for impact.
Negative shapes become an integral part of the design. Memory and imagination
help fuel the painting process. My main inspiration is to represent
the essential mood of the scene. In some paintings, I’m, inspired to
create a sense of the familiar; in others, a mood of drama or mystery
is the true consideration. I work too create a personal interpretation
of the image.”
