ARTIST STATEMENT
“Painting has been my love from a very early age. Having been paralyzed
at age 9 by polio, I turned to art as a substitute for the standard
activities of youth. After private painting lessons art was my elective
in high school, my major in college and has remained my passion ever
since. My favorite subject is the human figure. Most Saturdays find me
working in watercolor from a live model. Only when painting children
do I use photos as reference material. I am fascinated by the form and
movement of my subjects, and attempt to portray them in a free and direct
manner with emphasis on value and line. I try to capture not only a
likeness, but also an interpretation of mood and character. In addition to figure work and portraits, I also paint galloping
horses in watercolor and abstracts in acrylic. But whether working with
the real or the abstract, watercolor or acrylics, my goal is to present
exiting and moving images. In all my work, I hope that my viewer can
sense my verve for life and my love for art”. EDUCATION
