PROFILE

 

     Helen Gomez was born in San Diego, and raised in part in San Pedro, California where she first began her interest in painting at the age of six, while watching a U.S. Marine draw a Venus de Milo statue in blue pencil. She studied at Southwestern College and graduated with an Associate of Arts degree in photography. Ms. Gomez continued her art studies in Mexico, The Athenaeum School of the Arts in La Jolla, California, UCSD, and with renowned portrait artists. Helen's interest and studies in ancient art and symbols prompted her to visit archaeological sites in Egypt, Israel, Spain, and Mexico. Her portraits, land and seascapes, and still life paintings are inspired by her travels and her surroundings. She follows the beauty and simplicity of what she observes and feels.

     Helen has participated in numerous group shows which include Southwestern College, Casa de la Cultura, Mexico, UCSD Women's Caucus for the Arts, Poway Performing Arts Center for the San Diego Portrait Society, Artist's Space at Southfair-Del Mar, The Art Miles Mural Project- San Diego, J Street Gallery-San Diego, and most recently, at the Avenida de las Artistas Gallery-Vienna, Austria.
     Ms. Gomez is a member of the San Diego Portrait Society, San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild and the Portrait Society of America.
