ARTIST’S
STATEMENT
"I created my first painting at the age of 5. It was of sunflowers with seeds. At the age of 14 I sold my first oil painting of a seascape. My life has continued to be centered on art. I enjoy working in oils, acrylics, pastels, lithography, jewelry, ceramics and other media. My favorite medium, and the medium that I am currently expressing in, is oil on canvas. My current works are large and bold with deliciously bright color. Awareness The images of nature that I paint are often chosen because they are endangered. I want to share the beauty and magic of creatures that are disappearing all over the world. Currently, I am working on a series featuring Carnivorous plants. I have also created a series of oil paintings depicting the San Elijo Lagoon near San Diego, California. Our wetlands are extremely endangered with only about 10% of the natural spaces left existing on the California coast. Another recent series depicts endangered amphibian species. My hope is to raise awareness of the plight of these creatures and to inspire others to think about what is happening to our planet. I support the conservation efforts of the organization Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation by donating 5% of the sales of my art work. Spirit I do not limit myself in subjects or to one particular style. I enjoy creating abstract and realistic works. I am inspired by my dreams and visions. All of my work is some expression of my authentic self whether it is emotion, visions or connection with the Sacred. I often meditate before starting my work so as to open to the flow of Spirit. I believe the Sacred is within us, and a part of all that is around us. Art can be a means of expressing and touching the Sacred. Nature Nature
is the perfect reflection of the Sacred. Nature is such a wonderful
source of inspiration. I love painting frogs. They are colorful, earthy
and humorous with their secret lives hidden under earth, leaves and
water. I am inspired by the earth's elements and so much more in nature
that touches the sacred in me and brings joy to my work. I am raising
three sons with my husband, Dana. They have a large influence on my
decisions about what is important to express and share."
