PROFILE

Harold Gregor gained national prominence in the early 1970’s within the Photo-realist movement, turning to farm structures and the sweeping horizon of the rural Midwest for inspiration. Along with his realist landscape depictions, Gregor is known for his unusual Flatscape paintings, which combine an aerial perspective with unique color choices to suggest an essential midwestern landscape. Gregor received his B.S. from Wayne State University, his M.S. from Michigan State University, and his PhD from Ohio State University. Harold’s artwork has been featured in several one-person exhibitions and three retrospectives, as well as innumerable group, invitational and juried shows. He is the recipient of a 1993-1994 National Endowment for the Arts grant and a N.E.A. Midwest Fellowship. He has given workshops, curated exhibitions and is a Distinguished Professor of Art at Illinois State University, Normal, Illinois. In 1993 he was awarded the Illinois Academy of Fine Arts Lifetime Achievement Award. Gregor’s work is represented in important public and private collections throughout the United Stares and Europe.
