ARTIST’S STATEMENT

“I am Charlene Kasian, and am striving to capture the kinetic beauty and strength of the broken with artworks. I create by picking up and sometimes rearranging the pieces. In images of various media as well as sculpture, I assemble the broken, shattered, torn and cut fragments into a new order…not by cementing them together and pretending it’s a perfect whole, but by openly displaying the imperfect collection of disparate pieces. What keeps them in place is something unseen that dwells, as has always, in the spaces between. You can choose for yourself whether you see destruction or reconstruction, despair or hope, sarcastic commentary or deeper truth.”
