ARTIST’S STATEMENT
“I intend my paintings
to be more than just good art. I attempt to create a lasting image
of the curiosity, intelligence, and uniqueness of these often-endangered
animals. To me, that means realism without compromise and calls for
total honesty in the art and complete commitment to each concept.”
PROFILE
Davis began her
career in 1987 with pen and ink detailed renderings of wildlife. She
was first published in “Tide Pools”, a California literary journal,
that same year. Davis has studied with world-renowned wildlife artists
Carl Brenders, Robert Bateman, Richard Sloan, Rod Fredericks, and
Stephen Quiller. Davis has also studied with master artist Gamini
Ratnavira and John Seery-Lester; famous for the atmosphere he creates
in his wildlife paintings.
Davis participated
in a three-week mobile tenting safari in South Africa, Botswana, and
Zimbabwe, where she observed daily and intimately the animals she
paints, immersing herself in their environment. The experience there
provided invaluable reference to complete a life size mural, a 96”
x 144” of five life-sized zebra in their natural environment commissioned
for a private art collection.
A naturalist, Davis
has a deep appreciation of and lifelong personal experience with animals,
which have led her into a successful career in nature and wildlife
painting. In her intimate portraits, both domestic and wildlife, she
captures the natural curiosity and intensity of each subject. Davis
presents her artist’s worldview of wildlife in the hope that the general
public, as nature’s custodians, will share her concern and passion
for preserving them in the wild.
Davis has exhibited
at the Safari Club, San Diego Wildlife Show, Festival of the Arts
in La Jolla, Art Festival in the Village of La Jolla, San Diego Home
