ARTIST’S STATEMENT

“My place in this world. Your place in this world. Our place in this world. All we have created juxtaposed against nature. How art, the ocean, music, forests, science, mountains, religion, deserts, cities…all combine.

The repetition of people walking past you, textiles weaving in and out of your own repeating steps. Examining the interactions that take place without words.

Putting yourself above the buzz of the thoughts and words bouncing off of each other as these people pass you by to investigate the sky as the color changes at sunset.

Looking across the ocean and being aware that there is another culture on the other side. The idea that life exists outside of your own. The desire to know what fuels it. That moment when you question where you are in this world and how you got there.

My work is about capturing that moment in this world. That time when you look at everything going on around you and study its structure. Inspiration based off of the intricacy of natural patterns created by some kind of higher force. Immediate awe that is expressed through vivid colors drawing you in to reveal intricate patterns underneath.

As the realization that the world is not at peace due to an entanglement as opposed to layering of these patterns created by distinct cultures, the patterns float off the page, reinventing themselves in each work that follows. My need to perpetuate the idea that we have the capability to juxtapose our creativity against these patterns to make them coincide successfully feeds my work.
