PROFILE

 

     Sandra Chanis L. was born in Panama City, Panama. She received her B.A. from Western College or Women, Oxford, Ohio and her Masters of Arts in Painting form the University of Dallas, Texas. She was a full tenured Professor of Art at the University of Panama, Architecture Department in Panama City. There she taught ceramics, watercolor, drawing, landscape rendering, history of art, history of architecture, and figure drawing. She moved to the United States and worked as a Medical Illustrator for Tulane University in New Orleans. She continues to teach at Mira Costa College in Oceanside, CA and is widely sought out to lecture and participate in panel discussions.

     Sandra has had 18 one-person exhibitions and been in dozens of group shows throughout the United States and Panama. She has won several major awards for both her paintings and sculpture and has had her work published. Her work is also in the permanent collection of several major museums. Sandra has served as a juror and curator for many exhibitions and is a contributing member of several regional art organizations. Sandra is a Past-President of the Board of Trustees for the Oceanside Museum of Art.
