PROFILE
Abstract watermedia
works created by Joyce Corum reflects her deep interest in cosmological
and human history – an endless source of inspiration. Emphasizing texture
and simplifying forms, she creates an image which is generally frontal,
iconographic, and suggestive of natural forms (astral and geologic)
and cultural symbols (calligraphic and archaeological). Twenty years
of professional experience as an archaeologist has deeply influenced
the content of her paintings. The application of mixed-media collage
and layering tewchniques in her work is itself symbolic of natural processes
and the passage of time. Corum has an extensive
education in fine arts, acquired through university courses and watermedia
workshops. In recent years she has been juried into over thirty national/international
watermedia exhibitions and has received many awards. She is a member
of the San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild, San Diego Art Institute,
San Diego Watercolor Society, and Society of Layerists in Multi-Media.
Her work is included in a number of private and corporate collections. |
