PROFILE

 

     Grace Chow was born in China and grew up in Hong Kong, where at the age of twelve she started taking private lessons in Chinese brush painting. Later she obtained a B.A. in sociology from State University of New York at Binghamton, and B.F.A. and M.F.A. degrees in painting from the University of Washington.

     Grace has exhibited both her western watercolors/mixed media works and Chinese paintings on numerous occasions, including a three-person show, “Pandas in Chinese Painting” at the San Diego Museum of Art, group shows of the San Diego Art Institute and the La Jolla Art Association, and juried exhibitions of the San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild at the San Diego Museum of Art. She has also had one-person shows at the Founders Gallery of the University of San Diego, the La Jolla Art Association Gallery, the San Diego Art Institute, Mercy Hospital’s Behavioral Health Center, and the Union Gallery of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Grace Chow’s teaching includes courses in mixed media for the University of California-San Diego Extension Program and the Athenaeum School of the Arts, and Chinese painting classes for the San Diego Museum of Art and the San Diego Community College District. She has given numerous presentations to art and culture groups and juried art groups in the greater San Diego area.

     Grace Chow’s annual treks to scenic spots of the world have provided her with a wealth of interesting ideas ands subject matters for her paintings, which are distinguished by a unique blending of Chinese and western techniques.
