ARTIST’S
STATEMENT
“Through my artwork, I try to reflect my response to everyday life. Through abstract images, I speak directly to the viewer about the possibility of an inner-consciousness. Each painting brings forward concepts of change and discovery at the site of human experience. By creating a diverse yet cohesive palette, inventive color combinations and textural depth I convey different moods that are full of life and emotion.”
PROFILE
Cristina was born in Los Angeles and received her B.S. from the University of Southern California. She studied art at CSUB in Bakersfield, CA, CSLB in Long Beach, CA, the Print Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Anderson Ranch Art in Colorado. Her abstract paintings and monoprints each have a unique quality. From fifty years of life’s travels as a physical therapist, wife, mother, and artist, her emerging artwork depicts essential elements that develop into complex forms. Cohn uses whatever medium and found objects are at her disposal - basically anything that will speak to the viewer and convey an inner consciousness. Inspiration for her artwork comes from her response to everyday experiences. “I try taking in the whole picture: the whole experience, freezing it in time then extracting my response from that moment.” Her artwork displays a highly textured surface demonstrating her freedom to experiment with different mediums. Each work is like an evolving person: each new experience brings change and discovery. Cristina has been widely published, had several solo shows, and been in numerous juried exhibitions throughout Southern California, Mexico, and Cuba. Her work is in museum, corporate, and private collections throughout the U.S.A., Europe, and Arabia. She is a member of the San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild, North County Printmakers of San Diego, COVA, San Diego Watercolor Society, and the San Diego Women’s Caucus for the Arts. |
