ARTIST'S
STATEMENT
Inspiration for
my work may come from my worldwide travels or from the everyday world;
sudsy clothes in a washing machine, a motorcycle in China laden with
farm produce, dishes in a porcelain sink, geraniums in a window in Poland
against a backdrop of lace. I paint to convey my wonder and delight
in the richness of the visual world, focusing on the way light plays
on surfaces and embellishes color. I'm especially drawn to light dancing
on water, reflecting on glass and shining on metallic surfaces. Sometimes my compositions focus so close-up on subjects that they appear to pop forward of the picture plane, beckoning the viewer into the scene. My paintings often reflect life's whimsies by incorporating a visual joke, inconsistency or hidden message. It is a joy to share my vision of how the commonplace becomes uncommonly delicious to the sight.
