ARTIST’S
STATEMENT
“My artwork
reflects my interest in human form and motivation. I do both figurative
painting and drawing, as well as portraiture. In my figurative paintings,
I use vivid and vibrant color combinations, not only to express my own
emotional reaction to the human figure, but as a formal element in the
painting itself, to add life and interest to the composition. In my
charcoal drawings I am not only interested in the figure, but also in
the facial expression and emotional content of the person portrayed,
so I depict a facial as well as a figurative likeness. My portraiture
tries to capture the personality of the individual portrayed with an
emphasis in color and composition that will heighten the viewer’s interest.
In a philosophical sense, I am interested in the duality of human nature
– body and mind, psychological activity and passivity and emotional
and reflective thought.”
