PROFILE
Born in London and
educated in England and Australia, Joan Arentshorst was a fashion coordinator
in New York City when she began her studies in the realm of sculpture.
She studied with Vincent Glinsky at N.Y.U., later with John Hovannes
at the Art Students League, N.Y.C. In 1975 she moved
to San Diego, and has been producing stone sculpture continuously since
then. In between bi-annual
exhibitions in La Jolla, she has entered her work in shows in California,
Arizona, Japan, and Mexico. Her sculptures can be found in collections
in Australia, Holland, France, Canada, and throughout America. Most
of the artist’s work is done by commission. Joan Arentshorst takes her inspiration from the natural world. She has an innate sense of respect for the gift of stone given to her by nature. Learning early in her studies to recognize the limitations of stone, she creates art that when viewed, one becomes aware of the hidden beauty of the stone that enables her to present work that is, hopefully, serene and restful to the viewer. |
